Having a son myself, I always wondered what Mary must have been feeling as she watched her son get beaten beyond recognition and hung on a cross to die. Her son that she knew better than anyone was truly divine. The angel appeared to her and told her that she would conceive the Messiah. While she was certain of His divine nature did she know what He would have to suffer to bring us back into a right relationship with God?

The words to this song came into my thoughts constantly as I was painting this picture.

Mary did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new, this child that you delivered would soon deliver you?

Did you know your baby boy walked where angels trod?

When you kissed the little baby, you kissed the face of God?
